Prestige: The Most Costly Maritime Accident in History
The environmental damage caused by the oil tanker Prestige persists eight months after the vessel sank. Clean-up could cost 10 billion euros. Since last November 75,000 tons of waste -- including fuel, oil-covered sand and seaweed, and dead animals -- have been collected.

An estimated 345,000 hectares in Central American are planted with varieties or hybrids created by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, which recently closed its regional office. The Center's research is essential for improving the nutrition of the local population, say experts.
